Bridge at the Village

Welcome

Bridge at the Village is an American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) sanctioned duplicate bridge club in Laurinburg, NC. It serves the US-74 corridor through AnsonColumbusRichmondRobeson, and Scotland Counties in North Carolina and the SC-9 corridor through ChesterfieldDillon, and Marlboro Counties in South Carolina. Bridge at the Village offers a weekly Monday evening duplicate bridge game open to the bridge playing public. Scotia Village provides light refreshments and the playing site in the cafe. Some evenings, a member will grace the refreshments table with an offering from a personal recipe collection.

We play all games at 2200 Elm Avenue, Laurinburg, NC (at the corner of Sycamore Lane and Elm Avenue across Elm Avenue from Sycamore Lane Middle School). You may click on links above to read club history, inspect club conditions of contest, consider Laurinburg dining options, view the club service area, or link to related web sites. Bridge players who wish to improve their game may arrange private lessons. Those who would like to learn how to play may prefer group lessons.

Weekly club games include hand records and may include a lesson deal. When present, the lesson hand will demonstrate a point or three about bidding, declarer play or defense. A post-game discussion reviews The Post Mortem and the lesson deal handouts. Normally, each discussion participant has these handouts. They are always posted on the internet after the game. The Post Mortem and the hand record both appear on The Wednesday Game web site. The lesson deal appears on the results page of this web site.

Lesson deals come from assorted sources: text books, old tournament hands, and other instructive hands the club manager has seen. Before the end of the session, the lesson deal is not distinguished from the other boards. After play, the club manager sometimes writes a Hand of the Week bridge column based on one hand—not the lesson deal—from each session.

Players who provide an e-mail address will receive an e-mail message with the game results (in HTML format), the lesson deal handout, the Hand of the Week column, hand records, and The Post Mortem (all four in Adobe™ Acrobat™ portable document format) along with assorted other game and club related information.

All games are open to the general public. Play begins at 6:00pm local time. Play usually ends between 8:30pm and 9:00pm. We normally accommodate players who come without a partner. There are usually one or two Scotia Village community members who will play with a guest who wishes to play but has no partner. If necessary, the director will fill in when there are an odd number of players. If you plan to come alone and want to play, contacting us ahead of time to request a partner helps. You may click here for driving directions to Bridge at the Village.

Downloads: Bridge at the Village offers downloadable files for members and web site visitors. Now, most of those files are Scotia Village Bridge Team practice session handouts. We expect the downloads content to vary as we learn better ways to use this capability.
